I never did share any pictures of our vacation in Key West a few weeks back.
It didn't seem appropriate, somehow, to hold up and celebrate the wispy snippets of happiness that we managed to steal even as Rob's mom lay in a hospital suffering terribly from the ill effects of her first round of chemotherapy.
But she is better now - her improvement over the past week has been so dramatic that it feels something like a miracle and we are enjoying her relative good health even as we look towards next week when she faces her next scheduled round of treatments.
And these days, these days we are feeling hopeful. We are still heavy with stress and worry - just like we were the entire time we were away - but it no longer feels as if reveling in moments of joy will surely tempt fate to steal them away again.
We needed these days and we needed this joy. We need it still: I expect the memory of it will be our sustenance as we all continue down the long and difficult road ahead.

beautiful pictures. isn't it lovely to wear short sleeves in feb?
your boy is SUCH a doll
I think it's even more important to embrace the happy moments at a time when it feels as if the world has come crashing down around your ears. You need the smiles, laughter and beautiful views to sustain you during the days when you need the strength to stand tall.
I was lucky - the chemo didn't affect me like it has your MIL, but believe me when I say my heart is with her!
You had FUN! Lovely photos.
I hope her second round is not as bad as the first.
enjoying some fun moments doesn't lessen how much she is on your mind... but, I think you know that! :)
I love love that last photo! So glad Rob's mom is doing better.
Thanks for sharing the vacation pics. We love Key West!
I'm so glad to hear she's doing better.
Looks like a wonderful trip.
So nice!
Thank you for that little piece of sunshine. I'm sure it brightened MIL's day just as it brightened ours.
I felt the same way when Todd and I went on vacation a month after my dad went into the nursing home. I felt kind of guilty. But we definitely needed it. It is so important to have that time when you are surrounded by so much stress.
I hope that more sunshine than worries comes your way in these months.
Gorgous!!!
I am so happy for you all - and now I'm craving some Key West sunshine. But oh my word, I'm over the top happy that your MIL is doing so much better.
Glad your mother in law is doing better!
We can see that Graham had a great time!
I hope the feeling good holds for your mil.

looks like a well deserved happy get away.
I hope you MIL continues to get better.
fyi my mom is a cancer survivor.
The chemo & radiation was hell for her- but in the end it saved her live.
she's been in remission for over 15 years now.
Thank god for modern medicine.
Don't ever feel guilty for snatching as many moments of fun as you can. My husband has cancer and has had to go through a lot and we still have more ahead. We always encourage the kids to live life and try to have some fun when they can. It comforts us to see them be strong for our grand children and that they make sure that they are out on the beach or out in the sunshine. It is important that in the midst of cancer that life can go on as normal as possible for our children and grandchildren and ourselves. It is hard though. My heart goes out to you. I will be cheering for your MIL.
Key West looks like SO much fun!!!!!
Those are lovely - and I'm glad things are looking brighter.
So glad his mom is doing better. And it looks like the trip was a good one!
