Wallflower

Oh, how I wish I had made the time to buy a new dress for the BlogHer conference.

Or even to iron the ones I think I might want to wear and just threw in my suitcase.

I didn't.

I didn't have time: I am currently in the middle of moving from a 3,500 square foot house to a 2,300 square foot house. There is stuff everywhere. There are boxes stacked on boxes.

And I can't find anything.

So I didn't buy a new dress. Or iron or even try on the old ones I packed. I didn't have time to get a manicure or a pedicure and my eyebrows haven't been done in weeks.

My haircut is sloppy and my roots are showing. My legs are covered with bruises and I can't remember in which box I packed my earrings and necklaces.

I have been surviving on junky food and way too little sleep for days now and it shows in my skin. Yesterday, while unpacking the "bathroom" box the middle finger on my left hand got in a tussle with business end of a razor and emerged a bloody, pulpy mess.

I returned to the blogosphere for the first time in days last night and read, with a sinking stomach, approximately a million posts about the joyful preparations so many of the attendees are undertaking.

You are all going to be buffed and polished and absolutely beautiful, I just know it.

Me?

I'll be the one in the corner with the roots, the bloodshot eyes, the ill-fitting dress and the bandaged finger.

Save me a dance anyway?

Darling, I am anything BUT buffed and polished. I didn't iron my clothes either (they just get wrinkled again!) and I never get manicures or pedicures. So, in comparison, you are going to be WAY more polished than I.

Save a dance for ME, anyway? :)

Of course, silly! You've had lots of other stuff to worry about, and I can't WAIT to meet you in person, no matter if your roots are showing or not. :)

Still SO jealous I don't get to meet you!! Please, can I pick your brain over coffee sometime?!?! Thanks for the comment yesterday, whenever you stop by, it makes me feel like a celebrity stopped by. ;) Lots of love, I hope you have a BLAST at BlogHer!

You are going to have so much fun! I can't wait to hear all about it. Good luck with the remainder of your move, too. I'm in the middle of one myself. Last year we did the same same downsize (3600-2300), so I know what you are going through. It's not easy saying goodbye to so much stuff.

You'll be the one keeping it real.

Kelly, you're so funny. This post of yours made me regret - for the first time! - my sound financial decision of not going to BlogHer this year.:)

I think you're lucky just to be going! I was too chicken to consider going with a three-week-old (although I just know some intrepid mother is there with her newborn!). Have fun, you know people will love you no matter what! -- Damselfly

Honey, if I were there I'd be the one who was moderately sweaty, with a large, bright red zit taking up half of her chin, pit stains and hairy legs. I'd also be the bitch passed out in her pasta fazul by 9pm.

You will rock it.

You're beautiful, and I was a right bitch to you this morning. I'm sorry. I hear we were stuck in that horrid line because of the same crazy woman who couldn't find us even though we were right there. I hope to see you again to make it up to you. We can compare leg bruises.

Don't worry. They'll love you for who you are. :-)

All I know is...the girl I was talking to last night had on a hot dress, and kick ass shoes! So AWESOME to meet you...let's keep in touch!

You were beautiful! You ARE beautiful. Your keynote WONDERFUL.

Geez. A new dress isn't everything. Buffed and polished is definitely not me. (Yeah, I was on Friday night but really, believe me, that was a once in a lifetime thing and my nails and such were raggedy...I had to beg the microspa folks to put some lipstick on me because every time I tried, I looked like a clown.)

I am so glad that we got a chance to meet IRL! You looked great and if that was "unbuffed" look out world because you truly are stunning in all of your natural glory!

Oh hon, you were and are ABSOLUTELY STUNNING inside and out. Thank goodness we got a few dances in, "EH?" It was so great to hangout and you were brilliant during the keynote, just brilliant. Did us proud!

You looked beautiful, and it was a pleasure to meet you and hang out with you on Saturday evening. Don Mills Diva is on my "new (to me) blogs I think I will become addicted to" list.

You went as you. Why put on a different face for a bunch of strangers? Ya we all want to look and be our best, but sometimes life gives us a kick in the pants and we do what we have to just to get by. And if that monster sized photo of you in the post above is any indication, you looked wonderful :-) And if the post about hanging out and doing whatever was any indication, you should be proud of yourself inside and out.
