Sunshine and rain

Did I mention it rains a lot in Vancouver?

It does. It rains. A lot.

Luckily for us most of the city's famed aquarium is indoors so, weather be damned, I was able to make the acquaintance of this fine fellow on Friday.

And then, miracle of all miracles, Saturday dawned mercifully clear and we were able squeeze in a forest walk at the Capilano Suspension Bridge...

A bike ride around the seawall at Stanley Park...(hey, that helmet was mandated by law!)...

And some soaking in the sunshine and stunning skyline.

Just got home a few hours ago, in time to put Graham to bed. You'd hardly know that I spent half my time away fantasizing about hugging him and soaking in his sweet sunshine.

But more on that later...

  4. When I first moved to Toronto I was so used to everyone wearing helmets while cycling. Not only helmets - cycling gear too.

7 years later and I still do the double take when I see someone in work clothes (ie. a dress) and no helmet on a bike in the middle of the city.

  7. I got stuck on that Suspension Bridge when I was in grade 6.

It was one of the scariest things in my life, EVER.

  12. It's been almost 20 years since I've been to Vancouver . . . I would SOOOOOO love to go again! It's so beautiful. Hope you had a great time!

AND, we wouldn't be mommies if we didn't think of our kids every minute we were away from them ;-)

  17. Beautiful. I miss having a good aquarium nearby to visit. That was one of the perks of growing up in Oregon.

  26. I so love Vancouver! They have so many fun things for kids to do, especially during the Halloween season, like haunted ghost train rides :).

Last weekend, my husband, son and I went to Burnaby Central Railway. My son, who's 6 and loves trains, went wild, and the weather was awesome. Here's the review where I found out about it: http://www.sharesavvy.ca/cities/vancouver/reviews/480.
Next time your there, check it out!

    In a Vancouver-state-of-mind,
    Christine

  27. Looks like you guys had a great time...rain and all :) You are brave to cross the Capilano Suspension Bridge! I did it in '92 and there was a guy at the middle of the bridge, wrapping duct tape on the rails and when he saw the horror in my eyes, he laughed and said, "Oh! Just doing some minor repairs, dear!" LOL! OMG. I almost fainted as I tried to get across. Did I mention that I'm deathly afraid of heights?

Great photos :) Thanks for sharing with us. BC is such a beautiful place. People are so friendly there too!

  28. Vancouver! My hometown, and where my company is located so I get to travel back and forth pretty often. (I work from a home base in Toronto.)

Next time you go, I can give you lots of tips and recommendations, especially for kids. I have four nieces plus a nephew, ages 4-9, so I know all about the kiddie stuff in Vancouver. Our favourite places are the Aquarium and Science World.
